Storyboard Text

  • It is now the era of the Industrial Revolution, and this family is seeking a better life. They are planning on moving to the city, where the allure of new jobs, modern inventions, and new ideas are flourishing.
  • Father is uneducated, so when he moves to the big city, he decides to take a job in the factory, not realizing how terrible the conditions are. After a few months, he is invited to join a worker's union. The union frequently participates in strikes for fair pay and sanitary working conditions.  Eventually, the government passes new laws protecting workers' rights.
  • The working class family does not much like the middle class because they live in pleasant suburbs and support the terrible working conditions. They believe that the working class is in the situation they are in is because they are immoral and should build up a stronger work ethic so that they may move up the social ladder, however, in reality, that is impossible.
  • After a couple of months of living in the tenement, the couple's young son grows very ill. However, due to improving technology and proper healthcare as a result of the Industrial Revolution, he is nursed back to health with proper antibiotics and antiseptics.
  • The family has now lived in the city for five years, and the rate of urbanization is astounding. Because of the rapid population growth, skyscrapers have shot up all over the city. Corporations have taken over the business world, and industry leaders form monopoly empires.
  • Means of communication and transportation have grown. Railways connect most of the country, and new factory inventions have rapidly increased production, allowing for surpluses. Telephones allow people to communicate over long distances. It is the beginning of the world as we know it today. It is the Industrial Revolution.
