Storyboard Text

  • In the beginning, Spanish and Portuguese explorers used indigenous people from the new world as slaves
  • Harsh treatment and diseases resulted in the deaths of these Native Americans.
  • Huh. It looks like they have chicken pox.
  • I really don't feel good.
  • After the deaths of the Amerindians, Spanish and Portuguese monarchy decided to use Africans as slaves.
  • Why don't we use people from Africa?
  • Who can we use for slaves now?
  • Africans were taken forcibly from their homes and put onto slave ships that would take them across the ocean to the Americas.
  • Conditions on the slave ships were poor. People were packed tightly together, and many got sick and did not survive the trip.
  • When they arrived in the Americas, living quarters there were not much better.
