Jake is about to use the machine which will take him back in time to the time of the Robin Hood, where he will take the form of one of Robin's Merry Men, his ancestor.
Jake has travelled back in time and has taken the form of his ancestor. He see's all of the other Merry Men and begins to learn from them and their ways and how they live.
Robin and "Jake" sitting in the tree's watching a carriage holding King John and valuable items/money in preparation of stealing from it.
After weeks of preparation, Robin Hood decides that he and his Merry Men shall take part in one of the Crusades. Jake doesn't like the idea of this and attempts to return back home but discovers that something is interfering with the machine on the other side, therefore, preventing him from going home.
Due to Jake's conditions, he cannot return home, so is forced to participate in the battle. However, during this he get's badly wounded and can not fight. As he is giving up his life he see's Robin Hood laying on the ground with a blood pool laying beneath him. Jake then passes out.
When Jake wakes up he is back home in the present and discovers that he has completed his mission allowing the scientists to use the information for their studies and that's why he wasn't able to return home before they could witness and understand the death of Robin Hood. However, Robin Hood does not die there (there will be another scene at the end showing him alive and well).
