  • Hey, how are you, how is your throat?
  • In child’s bedroom:
  •  I feel horrible, when will my strep throat go away?
  • Some causes include: environmental factors (e.x. illness) and genetics.
  • I can’t get sick again
  • There are germs everywhere!
  • I can’t stop washing my hands
  • I need to wash them more!
  • What if these germs kill me
  • Some symptoms include: intrusive thoughts, compulsions (e.x. Repeated hand washing)
  •  Ummm, I don't know.
  • What happened to your hands?!
  • His teacher saw him applying an excess amount of hand sanitizer, revealing his raw hands. She contacts his parents.
  •  His mother took him to the doctor and after a series of tests, he ultimately got diagnosed with Contamination OCD, a common subset of OCD. Together they come up with a treatment plan which includes selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as Prozac or Zoloft and a form of cognitive behavioral therapy called exposure and response therapy. This therapy exposes yourself to the source of your fear over and over and over again, without acting out any compulsion to neutralize or stop the fear, allowing your brain to see how irrational it is.
