Storyboard Text

  • Hester is being publicly shamed for having an extramarital affair with another man.
  • That's Hester Prynne. Rumor has it that she slept with someone who wasn't her husband.
  • Dimmesdale, Hester's lover, feels guilty and meets Chillingworth, Hester's long-absent husband, which he does not know.
  • I feel guilty about what I did to Hester. No one deserves the harsh treatement she is receiving!
  • *Plans revenge* Please, continue.
  • Dimmesdale sees a meteor soaring across the sky forming the letter A, as a message from God to tell the people about the affair.
  • OH MY! God is that you?
  • This scene causes Hester, Dimmesdale, and Chillingworth to go their separate ways from Salem.
  • *Secrets being exposed all at once*
  • Dimmesdale finally puts the mystery to rest. He proclaims he is the father of Pearl while revealing the letter "A" on his chest which ruins Chillingworth's plan. Ultimately, he was dying and he did while telling the truth.
  • Dimmesdale: "Praised be his name! His will be done! Farewell!"
  • Hester and Pearl leave Salem for a while. Chillingworth vanishes again but he leaves Pearl a great amount of money in his will. Hester returns to her cottage wearing only gray and she reapplies the letter "A" to her bosom. No one knows what happened to Pearl. Hester dies and is buried beside Dimmesdale.
  • On a field, sable, the letter A, gules.
