Mom, why does dad love Isaac more than me?! I'm his first born.
RESPECT GOD'S WISHES, HE LOVES YOU!
I can't believe he stole my throne!? He's not that great, and plus his looks don't even compare to my beauty!
Jewish history began with a man named Abraham. In the beginning his wife Sarah, was unable to conceive (due to her old age), so he had a child out of wedlock with their far younger servant. Luckily for Sarah she gave birth to his favourite child Isaac, who would later on continue a generation who would keep the Hebrews in Egypt for 150 years, before things went bad. Abrahams smarter Grandson Jacob( unlike Esau), had 12 sons, from which we get the 12 tribes of Israel.
I think I'll name my kid Hanukkah!
Around 1290 B.C, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt in an event called the Passover, and Yahweh formed the covenant at Mount Sinai with the people. The Israelites then settled the Promised Land. It was called Canaan. They faced many battles. He also brought forth the 10 Commandments, to his people.
Like I care, Guards take them away.
WE DON'T WANT YOU AS KING!
The Kingdom of Israel was formed, and Saul was the first king to come in power. Though he was a strong physically, his mind was weak. He envied David (his son-in-law), and in the end, his jealously resulted in his dethroning. David came into power, and was deemed the greatest of all kings. His son built the temple, and because of him the land would be divided. The Northern kingdom would be called Israel, and the South kingdom would be called Judah.
Be good my children.
It's a great day to live in Israel!
The general of Egypt ruled Palestine until the Romans beat the Greek in a Navy battle. The Jews wanted independence and rebelled against the Greeks in a battle known as the Maccabean War. The Jews were successful. The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah came from this battle.
After the Greek rule, came Romans rule and the Jews were again no longer a free people. The Romans selected a man from Idumea named Herod to rule. They disliked Herod, and wanted someone else in ruling. This lead the Jews wanting their independence back and a group named the Zealots led a rebellion against the Romans, in 66 A.D. Sadly, it was unsuccessful.
During this era the the Jews faced struggle to be free. Religion became the center of their life and Religion leaders called Rabbis became very valuable in their daily lives. In 1948 Palestine was divided and a new country called Israel was born.
