Storyboard Text

  • As the pilgrims arrive at a village, the journey is almost over and the host asks the parson to tell the final tale.
  • The parson goes on to say that he will not tell a fable because it goes against Saint Pauls letter to Timothy. The parson proposes he tells something with more virtue.
  • The parson adds that he will try to entertain the group and jokes that he doesn't know the poetry of the south. He asks the host for instructions on telling the tale. once the host did so he tells the parson to tell the tale before the sun went down.
  • The parson starts the tale by describing the 3 parts of penitence-contrition,confession and satisfaction. The sermon discusses confession and then sin, describing the two types of sin.
  • The third part of the sermon considers all of the 7 deadly sins, pride being the worst. each sin is accompanied by the spiritual way to counter it. The parson also states the rules for oral confession.
  • the conditions of enitence are explained and the "fruit" of penitence is goodness and redemption thru christ. he states that there is a paradise where  everything is perfect but replenished by the knowledge of god. this paradise is only attainable by being highly spiritual and by avoiding sin.
