Storyboard Text

  •  Title page
  • The Fault in Our Stars
  • By: John Green  Genre: young adult fiction
  • Chelsea Wilkison
  • Exposition
  • "' What?" I asked "Nothing," he said. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Augustus half smiled. "Because you're beautiful. I enjoy looking at beautiful people."' (15)
  • "I cut a glance to him, and his eyes were still on mine. It occurred to me why they call it eye contact. I walked into the circle and sat down next to Isaac, two seats away from the boy. I glanced again. He was still watching me. Look, let me just say it : He was hot... the guy was still staring at me I felt rather blushy... "my  name is Augustus Waters" he said."(9)
  • Rising action
  • "Van Houten sighed. After another drink... "sick children become inevitably arrested... And we,as adults,we pity this, so we pay for your treatments, for your oxygen machines. We give you food and water even though you are unlikly to live long enough"' (192)
  • "I woke up in the ICU. I could tell I was in the ICU because I didn't have my own room, and because I was alone." (108)
  • "And then we were kissing...It almost felt as if it lasted forever"(203)
  • Climax
  • "He leaned back and sighed . "Just before you went to the ICU, I started to feel this ache in my hip." "No," I said. Panic rolled in, pulled me under. He nodded "So I went in for a PET scan." He stopped... He flashed his crooked smile, then said, "I lit up like a Christmas tree, Hazel Grace"... " I'm so sorry"  I said. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you," he said, his voice calm... "It's not fair," I said. "The world," he said, "is not a wish granting factory." and then he broke down,  just for one moment, his sob roaring impotent like a clap of thunder unaccompanied by lightning." (214-215)
  • '"My name is Hazel. Augustus Waters was the great star-crossed love of of my life. Ours was an epic love story... Gus knew. Gus knows. I will not tell you our love story, because like all real love stories, it will die with us. As it should. I'd hoped that he'd be eulogizing me, because there is no one I'd rather have. I can't talk about our love story, so I will talk about math. I am not a mathematician, but I know this. There is an infinite between 0 and 1... Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many days of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You have me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful."' (259-260)

  • Resolution
  • " Van Houten, ... I don't want to ask you any favors, but if you have time-and from what I saw you have plenty- I was wondering if you could write a eulogy for Hazel...  She is so beautiful. You don't get tired of looking at her. You never worry if she is smarter than you: You know she is... I love her. I am so lucky to love her, Van Houten. You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices. I hope she likes hers. I do, Augustus. I do." (313)
