Storyboard Text

  • Its been a nice day to have a picnic. Those cupcakes are amazing! But, now that we are done, what should we talk about?
  • Hm, good question. Oh, I know! I bet I am smarter than you, especially after what we learned in class yesterday.
  • I bet you aren't! What did you learn about yesterday?
  • We learned about how to Combine Like Terms! It was a little hard at first, but I understand now. Would you like me to teach you?
  • Yep, I sure would! Then there will be no doubt I am smarter. So, teach away!
  • Let's start with the problem "2x+4y-3x-6y." First, arrange them to where terms with the same variable parts are side by side.
  • Ok, got it. I'm going to write this down, though, so its easier.
  • Next, add or subtract the number parts of each term, but you can only combine terms with the same variable parts.
  • Ok, I understand everything so far. Keep going.
  • Ok, then your answer is the solution to combining all the number parts with each number part keeping the same variable parts it had before.
  • Yay! I got it! Is it "-x-2y?"
  • Okay, beat you there, Edwardo!
  • Yeparoo! Good job, Zebulon. Look, it is already night! We need to get home.
