  •   13 The Egyptians became ruthless in imposing tasks on the Israelites, 14 and made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and brick and in every kind of field labor. They were ruthless in all the tasks that they imposed on them.

  • Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, when she say he was a fine child she hid him for 3 months until she couldn't hide him no longer. Then the mother placed the baby in a papyrus basket coated with tar and pitch. Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him.

  • 11 One day, after Moses had grown up, he went out to his peopleand saw their forced labor. He saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of hiskinsfolk. 12 seeing no one hekilled the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to kill Moses.But Mosesfled from Pharaoh. He settled in the land of Midian, and sat down by a well. 16

Remove thesandals from your feet,7 the Lordsaid, “I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt;  and to bring them up outof that land to a good and broad land, a land with milk and honey
