  • During the time Cassius grew up, southern states like Kentucky were segregated by race. There were different schools, restaurants, swimming pools, and restrooms for black people and white people.

  • Joe Martin took Cassius under his wing and taught him how to fight. This was the beginning of his bright and successful career.

  • Cassius had discovered that he had real talent for boxing. he was much fast than others his size, being able to throw and dodge punches quicker than others. He went on to fight 105 fights as an amateur fighter, winning 100 of the 105.
  • 1960, Cassius travelled to Italy to participate in the Olympics. Hw defeated all of his opponents to win the gold medal. Upoun returning home, Cassius was an American hero. He decided to turn to professional boxing.
