  • Slave ships left ports like London or Liverpool for West Africa. They brought guns and goods to trade for slaves from slave traders.

  • The kidnapped Africans were taken miles from their homes to be sold to travellers

  • Enslaved Africans would be collected for months from different ports
  • They were then take to the West Indies, where they were auctioned off as slaves.
  • They were forced to work on farms for long hours. this is when they began to sing work songs to raise morale. This was the origin of blues. These work songs usually consisted of call and response and were about the work they were doing
  • This tradition formed blues. Blues continues to be written, recorded and performed to this day
