One day the king was sitting on his throne when he got the great idea to throw a grand feast. He called for his servant. "Servant!" he yelled "Go get people for my grand feast I will host tonight". The servant, of course, having no idea about any feast followed his command. "Yes sir" the servant said as he scurried out the door.
A couple minutes later the servant came back with three people. The king clapped his hands with joy and welcomed his guests happily to their seats. They all hesitated and Ezekiel, the first guest, stepped forward to explain.
"Your honor, I am afraid I will not be able to attend your feast. For, I have purchased a grapevineyard and must go check to see if the grapes are ripe. Please excuse me" Ezekiel gave a bow and left with haste. "You must bring me some of those grapes for the great feast tonight!" the king yelled as Ezekiel quickly shut the door behind him.
"Your Highness, I have a herd of cows that I must run ten times a day to keep their legs strong. I am terribly sorry." Hiram, the second guest gave a wobbly bow and trembled out the room. "He could at least save me a cow" the king mumbled.
"Your Highness, my husband and I are having our marriage party. We are very sorry. Please count us excused." Naomi gave a curtsy and started to walk out calmly. "Am I invited to that grand wedding feast of yours?" the king asked. To his surprise Naomi turned around and laughed. "Of course, your Highness! Please bring a gift." The door shut behind her.
The king roared. "How dare they skip my grand feast! Servant! Go invite more people so my table will be full." The servant gulped and said "Your Highness, I am afraid the people cannot come." The king shouted "Go out to the highways and hedgerows and make people come, that my home be filled. For, I tell you none of those who were invited will taste my dinner.”
