THE ORDINARY WORLD
THE CALL TO ADVENTURE
REFUSAL OF THE CALL
One day, I was just minding my business when one of my friends ran up to me, panicky and yelling for help, at moi. I told him to calm down and start from the beginning.
MEETING WITH THE MENTOR
He told me some fifth graders had gotten him in trouble for being in the bathroom when they were throwing toilet paper. He said they had gone to the office and reported him and had flipped their places. I told him to give me time to think the situation over so I could plan.
CROSSING THE THRESHOLD
Later that day, I was thinking about whether or not I should help him. I had to ponder upon this because of my overbearing and competitive parents. At first, I thought no.
TEST, ALLIES, & ENEMIES
That night, I lay in bed pondering all of the possible outcomes. I realized there were more negatives than positives. I decided to help.
The next day, I asked him, “What should I do?” And that was it, I was in, win or lose. Later that day, he was called down to the office and we knew what was coming.
When we got to the office, the fifth graders were waiting for us outside the main door. “Whatcha gonna do, huh pipsqueak?” one of the fifth graders said to me. “If ya get involved, you’d better watch your back.”
