Storyboard Text

  • Although the primary targets of the Crusades were Muslims, many jews were slaughtered and persecuted. The First Crusade was the worst for the Jews. Crusaders destroyed and burnt down synagogues and destroyed holy books. In fact , some Christians tortured Jews till they accepted Christianity as their new faith. Prejudice against Jews spread across the Middle East. Many non-crusaders were persecuting Jews. Many people were jealous and malicious towards the Jews. Once the crusades ended, Jews had very low ranks in society. Several countries even expelled Jews including France and England. The countries that kept the Jews forced them to live in ghettos or crowded neighborhoods outside of the city.
  • Please sir, don't harm me.
  • Since you are Jewish, you will either convert to Christianity or become executed.
  • Impact of Crusades on Jews
  • The Crusades weren't very beneficial for the Muslims. Since, Muslims were the most advanced group at that time coming into contact with other civilization wasn't really beneficial for Muslims. Also many Muslims were massacred or lost their lives in battle. A lot of Muslim property was destroyed during the crusades. However, Muslims did gain exposure to new weapons and technology. Fighting against a common enemy also unified the Muslims, which was probably the biggest benefit. Several Muslim traders earned a lot of money from trade with the Europeans. This money funded a lot of important public resources. As a result of the crusades, the Ayyubid dynasty was founded and ruled in parts of the Middle East till 1280.
  • Your highness, we lost a lot of lives and territory during the crusades. So, why
  • Ayyubid Dynasty King Sala Al-din
  • Look at the bright side, all the Muslims became unified, we learned about new weapons and now our territory has expanded to Egypt.
  • The crusades took a lot of Christian lives and destroyed a lot of Christian property. However, the crusades were most beneficial to the Christians. The Christians reconquered the Iberian Peninsula and many small territories in the Middle East. Contact with Muslim civilization greatly influenced Christian life. The Christians were exposed to new materials and new foods. Christians dressed in cotton clothes, and developed a liking for apricots and sesame seeds. The crusades also helped bring the end of Feudalism because many lords and knights left to fight and this resulted in the monarch gaining more power. One bad effect of the crusades was that many knights and nobles who returned from war became poor and had to perform banking functions to gain money.
  • I too love apricots but I like dates better.
  • Christians adopted a lot of Muslim culture including eating apricots and dates and dressing in cotton clothes.
  • I love apricots
