  • I wish there was a way i could educate my daughter. I'm going to get books at the library to find a way
  • The Cogswells neighbors were the Gallaudets.
  • There must be others like her we should build a school
  • Gallaudet was chosen to go to Europe to learn how to educate and school the deaf. 
  • i hope that i will find a better way to do this
  • Dr. Mason Fitch Cogswell had a daughter named Alice who was deaf because of spotted fever.
  • He then went to France and attended a demonstration by Laurent Clerc and Abbe Sicard.
  • I would love to go to the US and help you with your school.
  •  Mr. Gallaudet felt sorry for Alice as he watched her struggle to interact so he taught her how to write in the dirt with a stick. she understood and they both decided that she should get educated 
  • Clerc and Gallaudet travel back to the States

  • Alice was the first to enroll when the school opened on April 15, 1817.Gallaudet then got married  and his youngest son Thomas established the first deaf church in America. Edward Miner Gallaudet was the founder of what is now known as Gallaudet university.An increase in ASL education let to the formation of a bigger deaf community .
