Nick moves to New York from Chicago coming home from war. He lives just a little bit of water from his cousin Daisy and her husband Tom on the East Egg. He is traveling by water to their house to have Tea.
Daisy Shows How Much She Has Missed Her Cousin

As Nick arrives he is greeted by Tom Buchanan, Daisy's husband. Tom starts to show him around the property a bit to show off his money. "I've got a nice place here,"
Tom Makes Conversation While They All Have Tea

When Nick meets Daisy she is lying on a couch with the windows open and curtains blowing through the air. She is laughing as though a child would. "Do they miss me?"
Tom Leaves the Scene for a Call From His Mistress
“Tom’s got some woman in New York.”
Nick also meets Jordan Baker, a famous golf player. They all decided to go out on the patio for tea. “I’ve been lying on that sofa for as long as I can remember.”
As they all sit down for tea Tom makes conversation with Nick about what he does for a living and is a bit arrogant. "I hate that word Hulking."
Throughout their time together, Nick starts to notice tension between Daisy and Tom. Later on, Tom leaves the scene for a phone call and Daisy follows. Nick finds out from Jordan the woman on the phone is Toms mistress. “Tom’s got some woman in New York.”
