The narrator is waiting outside the old man's bedroom. He is waiting for him to go to sleep, so he can peek inside. He watched the old man sleep for eight days, but now.
"I had my head in, and was about to open the lantern when my thumb slipped upon the tin fastening, and the old man sprang up in bed, crying out--Who's There?"
"Yet, for some minutes longer I refrained and stood still. But the beating grew louder. I thought the heart must burst. And now a new anxiety seized me-- the sound would be heard by a neighbor." The old man's hour had come! With the loud yell, I threw open the lantern and leaped into the room . He shrieked once-- once only/ "The narrator scared the old man, leaving him stone dead.
The narrator dismembers the corpse off of his head., arms, and the legs. Hen he hid the rest of the body under the wood pranks. He cleared it up it was like before so nobody would notice its different
When he finished , there was a knock at the door. two police officers were called to search the house because the neighbor heard a shriek at night. the narrator let them in, because they won't find anything.
the officers were talking, the narrator could hear the heart beating louder . He grew worried and confused. The he admited that he killed the man and the police arrested him.
