The Hajj With Mansa Musa Through the Eyes of a Slave
Hi. I'm a slave. As a slave, I am forced to go on this hajj with my master. The hajj is a walk to Mecca all Muslims should take at least once in their lifetime. Mecca is a desert in western Saudi Arabia. I work for Mansa Musa and I help carry gold. Mansa Musa is the king of Mali, and probably the richest man in the world.
We have now arrived in Taghaza from Walata. We travel about 16 miles a day. It took us about 30 days to get here. Taghaza is well known for its salt. They have many salt mines, which is why they have excess salt.
Our pilgrimage has been going very well. The pilgrimage is the walk we are taking to Mecca. We have just arrived in Tuwat from Taghaza. We traveled about 240 miles or about 15 days. While Mansa Musa is very rich, I'm worried about his money. He keeps trading his gold for new things every time we see a merchant selling something. He even gives his gold away to the poor.
This is where we sleep. We the slaves, or the camels carry these tents and pop them up each night.
We have finally made it to Mecca. Once we go back to the kingdom of Mali from here, our hajj is officially completed!!
