  • My Berries! A Native American Story by Clara Hogle
  • This story will be following members of a Native American tribe called the Cherokee
  • 2. Awendela! I can't find my berries!
  • 1. Oh, what is wrong now Achak? Why are you crying on this day?
  • 3. Then go and pick some more! It's not like there aren't more in the forest!
  • 1. I still can't find my berries
  • 3. You're right, Chenoa, I'll go look there!
  • 2. They are probably in the woods like the rest of the berries.
  • 1. Hello young Cherokee! We are the Catawba! We are here to trade with you and your tribe. What would you like? We have pottery and berries, and all sorts of other things!
  • 2. Well, let me take you back to the rest of my tribe, and show you what we have for trade!
  • 1. Greetings! My name is Awendela, I am the female elder of this tribe. This is my daughter, Chenoa. I believe you have met young Achak.
  • 2.  Greetings, we are here to trade with you! We have pottery and berries with us at the moment, but we can always come back later and bring more items!
  • The Cherokee got Pottery and Berries from the Catawba, and the Catawba got Arrowheads and other natural resources from the Cherokee.
  •  The two tribes traded resources, and Achak finally got some berries.
