  • Hello, my name is Henry II an I expanded the system of royal justice.
  • Duke William, "William the Conqueror," took firm control over his land. He was got the crown of England on Christmas Day 1066. He raised an army back to pope. He made the book "Domesday Book".Information on the book help build an tax system.

  • My name is John, Henry's son. Even though I am greedy and cruel, I signed the Magna Carta.
  • To learn about his Kingdom, he created the Domesday Book. The Domesday Book had every castle, field, and pigpen in England. The book helped William and later monarchs build a efficient system of tax collecting.

  • Henry II inherited the throne in 1154. He expanded the system of royal justice and he laid the basis for common law. Common law was a system based on custom and court ruling. He also started jury system, a group of men who sworn to speak the truth.

  • John, Henry's son, was clever, greedy, cruel and untrustworthy. He faced 3 powerful enemies during his reign: King Philip II of France, Pope Innocent III, and his own English nobles. John and a major setback when he lost to a war with Philip and John got excommunicating. After he angered his nobles, he got cornered and was forced to sign the Magna Carta.
  • The Magna Carta was a document of a long list of feudal rights. The Magna Carta was created because John angered his own nobles and he was forced to sign the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta include protection of rights to barons, townspeople and church. The King also agreed not to raise taxes. It also contained two important ideas, address that nobles had rights and the monarch must obey the law.
  • Edward ordered Parliament to approved money for his wars. Edward has representatives of the "common people." The "common" were two knights. The assemble was became known as Model Parliament. The Parliament had developed two house hold body: the House of Lord and the House of Commons. Later on Parliament gained the crucial "power of the purse."
