Period 2 12-12-16
Ms. Kinnian, Charlie's teacher, informs Charlie there is a surgery that could triple his IQ and make him "smart" just like everyone else. She tells him she has recommended him for the operation.
After many weeks of intelligence testing, the two doctors preforming the surgery, Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur, finally accept Charlie for the operation. Although there is some conflict about Dr. Nemur's disapproval, he eventually agrees.
Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur preform the surgery.
After the sergury, Charlie becomes obsessed with knowledge and learning. He is smarter than Ms. Kinnian and can now feel a variety of emotions which leads to Charlie having a lot of stress. His days consists of reading and writing and Charlie has unknowingly let his obsession take over his life.
Charlie realizes who he thought his friends actually were. He starts to show similar signs of when Algernon, a rat that also went through the same surgery, went from smart to depressed to dead. Charlie looses motivation and is now generally sad. He decides to leave New York and start a new life.
