  • Northern Free States: Why did they oppose it?
  • Northern Free States: Beliefs about Congressional Power?
  • Let the states decide.
  • Northern Free States: Fears about the Compromise?
  • Many Northerners opposed slavery because of moral reasons, stolen jobs,  and because they believe America should go industrial.
  • Southern Slave States: Why did they support it?
  • The North wanted the individual rights to states to decide whether they abolished or  maintain slavery not congress.
  • Southern Slave States: Beliefs about states' rights?
  • Give states rights!
  • Land would be given to the south used to expand slavery. Allowing them land under a certain line would allow slavery into the west.  
  • Southern Slave States: Fears about the Compromise?
  • Slaves are almost free and will work to death. This combination led to very few 
  • The south also believed in states right, however didn't allows follow them. Allowing states right allowed them to be slave states.
  •  The North gained much more land by using the 36-20 line but they accepted the comprise because of the Fugitive Slave act.
