  • Women's March on Versailles
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man
  • Article I – Men are born and remain free and equal in rights. Social distinctions can be founded only on the common good. Article II – The goal of any political association is the conservation of the natural and imprescriptible rights of man. These rights are liberty, property, safety and resistance against oppression.Article III – The principle of any sovereignty resides essentially in the Nation. No body, no individual can exert authority which does not emanate expressly from it.
  • Reign of Terror
  • Women who were angry about the prices of bread and the rumor that the royalty were hoarding bread marched on Versailles with weapons and demanded that they get bread and the the royal family live in Paris.
  • Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
  • The Declaration of the Rights of Man was the constitution that the National Assembly drafted for the new government. It was based off of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Rise of Napoleon
  • The Reign of Terror is the period when Maximillien Robespierre ruled France and killed over 40,000 people. Even the closest people to Robespierre could be beheaded or imprisoned.
  • Fall of Napoleon
  • After being brought back from Versailles to Paris, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were tried and convicted for treason and executed via guillotine. 
  • After taking advantage of several opportunities during the revolution, Napoleon rose to the rank of general. He orchestrated a coup in 1799 and self appointed himself to emperor in 1804.
  • After spreading his empire throughout Europe, Prussia, Russia and other countries joined forces against France. He was defeated at the battle of Waterloo and exiled to an island. He came back and tried to seize power, and this was called the "hundred days", but was exiled again and died alone.
