Storyboard Text

  • Symbolism
  • "I wear the chain I forged in life, I made it link by link, and yard by yard".
  • Indirect Characterization
  • Scrooge and Marley's
  • “If they would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”
  • Internal Conflict
  • "The school is not quite deserted, A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still."
  • This quote shows that the chain symbolizes Marley's life. Each link consists of things such as money, profit, and interest all things that Marley felt were important in his life.
  • Theme
  • "we could improve our worldly fortune by our patient industry. You are changed. When it was made, you were another man."
  • This quote shows that Scrooge has no feelings for the poor. He thinks that they have no meaning and he is not willing to make a donation to help them. He feels that they just might as well die.
  • Indirect Characterization
  • "Scrooge had a very small fie but the clerks fire was so much smaller that it looked like one coal."
  • When Scrooge sees his past, he sees a lonely boy left at school by himself during the holidays. Scrooge remembers how lonely he was as a child which makes him emotional. This may have caused Scrooge to become the man that he is today.
  • Theme
  • "Hear me! I am not the man I was. I will not be the man I must have been but for this intercourse. Why show me this, if I am past all hope...I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach."
  • One of the themes could be the effects of greed. This shows the effects of greed because when Scrooge sees that he cares more about money and his business then Belle, he begins to feel awful. Scrooge realizes that he could have had a much better and happier life if greed and money did not control his life.
  • Scrooge keeps the coal box in his own room which indirectly characterizes him as a greedy man. He is inconsiderate and keeps all the warmth for himself, while his clerk, Bob, is left cold and alone in the office.
  • Another theme that could be represented by the story is, everyone is capable of change. Tiny Tim plays a big role in Scrooge's change. When Scrooges see the future scene where Tiny Tim is about to die he realizes that his death is in his control. Scrooge now knows that if he changes his personality and respect toward others he can save Tiny Tim and other aspects of his future.
