  • Queen isabella of spain, will you agree to fund my voyage to find a new route to asia?
  • I will fund your voyage on one condition, that you bring Christianity to any new lands you discover. I will provide any new technology you need, such as compasses.
  • On August 3, 1492, Columbus set out from Palos, Spain. He had three ships with him, the Nina, the pinta, and the larger santa maria. The three ships carriedaabout 90 sailors and a six-month supply of fod and water. However after only a few weeks at sea, the sailors grew nervous about the distance thye had traveled. Columbus refused to alter his course, instead he encrouaged the crew by describing the riches they would find.
  • We will have to circumnavigate around the rocks to not crash
  • We will take the strait to open sea, to the water passage!
  • On october 12, 1492, at two o'clock in the morning, a lookout shouted the words "Tierra" which mean land. Columbos just discovered what would later be the bahamas. Columbus went ashore and calimed the island for spain, and named it San Salvador. However columbos believed he had arrived in the east indies, the islands off the coast of Asia.
  • Tierra! Tierra! Land! Land!
  • Columbus explored the area for several months. Because he thought he was in the east indies, he called the native people "Indians." He noted that they looked at the Europeans with wonder and often touched them to find out "if they were flesh and bones like themselves."
  • Our pueblos are always open for trade between your people, feel free to come!
  • When Columbus returned to Spain, Queen Isabella and the Spanish king, Ferdinand, received him with great honor. They made him Admiral of the Ocean Send agreed to devote funds to his future voyages.
  • Good luck our new conquistador, i entrust you to discover new lands for Spain
  • However this wasn't the end for Columbus, with the funding provided to him he would later lead three more voyages to the Americas from Spain in 1493, 1498, and 1502. He explored the Caribbean islands of Hispaniola, which are today's Haiti and Dominican republic. He also sailed along the coasts of central america and northern south america, claiming the new lands for Spain and starting settlements.
