When Langston Hughes was very young his parents divorced so he went to live with his maternal grandmother. During this time she told many stories about her first husband and how she worked underground railroad. They were very poor and had a old house. Langston had been class poet in his school.
When he was twelve his grandma died. He went to live with his mom and step dad. He moved a lot before settling in Cleveland. Then there he finish high school in the 1920. He has also started with a lot more poets.
Langston Hughes went to collage 1921 doing engineering, but he didn't like it. Instead he went to travel the world. In 1923, Hughes join a crew of a boat for Africa, as the cook. Once they arrived, he went to travled through Africa and Europe, working as a dish washer to pay his expenses. Later in 1926 he went back to collage at Lincoln University and finishes in three years.
As I said before he was elected as class poet in elementary school. He also got awards when he got older and older. He also written plays like "simply Heavenly,". He also got a better and bigger audience.
His poetry was getting very strong. To the point that Vachel Lindsy a famous white poet read it and approved it so he got a bigger audience. He was also getting awards now, a lot of them. He also made plays that I mention before.
Langston Hughes was considered the finest poet in the 20th century even though he died in 1967. He was also considered to contribute to the Harlem renaissance.
