  • Hong Kong December 8th-25th, 1941
  • Sure! Anything for the mother land
  • Britain made a request for Canadian troops to help reinforce its remote Asian colony of Hong Kong
  •   Canada! We need you to do us a great favor!
  • Japan had been waging war in China since 1937
  • Canada first joined the battle while defending the British Colony of Hong Kong against a Japanese attack 
  • General C.M. Maltby had only a total force of around 14,000 soldiers and a token number of naval and air force personnel
  • On December 8th, a Japanese aircraft attacked the Kai Tak airport and destroyed the few aircrafts of the Royal Air Force
  • Six hours after the bombing at Pearl Harbor, the Japanese 38th divison, made up of well-trained troops, attacked Hong Kong.
  • After a lengthy battle with the Canadians, the Japanese had claimed victory
  • Those who survived the battle became prisoners of war and many endured torture and starvation by their Japanese captors.
