All his life Equality wanted to be a scholar so he wanted the council to say scholar, but instead the council exclaimed "street sweeper" (Rand 26). He was not thrilled with this decision but he accepted it because he was taught to.
While walking in the forest, Equality and International found an underground area with an iron bar sticking out of the ground. When they got to the bottom of the underground Equality stated "It was a great tunnel; no men known to us could have built this place"(Rand 32).
Equality saw Liberty for the first time, and he stated "You are beautiful, Liberty 5-300" (Rand 42). That was the first time Equality talked to Liberty and he named her "Golden One" because he thought she was perfect.
There is one Unspeakable Word in this dystopian society, and it is "I". According to Equality he emphasized "We have seen one of such men burned alive; there is no crime punished by death in this world, save this one crime of speaking the Unspeakable Word" (Rand 49).
A new power was discovered by Equality, it was electricity. He stated "we, Equality 7-2521, have discovered a new power; no single one can possess greater wisdom than the many Scholar..."(Rand 53, 54). He thought if he took it to the scholars they would accept it and allow him to become a scholar.
Equality interacted with Liberty at the hedge. Equality told Liberty she was "out dearest one"(Rand 56). After that Liberty went across the hedge and got water in her hands for Equality.
