  • 1824-John Quincy Adams and the Corrupt Bargain
  • 1828- Tariff of Abomination
  • 1828- Jackson 1st election
  • John Q. Adams was accused of the "Corrupt Bargain" by A. Jackson to buy the Presidency.
  • 1828- South Carolina Nullification
  • WE WILL NOT PAY THE TAX!!
  • Congress had passed a high tax on imports, "Tariff of Abomination". The north favored the tax and the south opposed the tax.
  • 1832- Worcester vs. Georgia
  • Won the presidency from siding with the common man. 1.Expanded suffrage. He hired his friends and met in the kitchen, "kitchen Cabinet"
  • 1836- Trail of Tears
  • South Carolina threatened to secede and did not pay the tax.
  • Worcester living with the Cherokee was against the law. The court enraged the state of Georgia and contradicted the president's desire to move the indians of the southeast.
  • The Cherokee delayed moving in the fall of 1837. Federal troops forced 16,000 Cherokee to relocate. 1/4th of them died from starvation,exposure, and fever.
