  • Massachusetts: In 1629, John Winthrop and 1,000 other Puritans began the colony.
  • Many people began fishing and ship building.
  • Him and 100 other settlers left the colony of Massachusetts to build the colony.
  • Connecticut was founded in the year 1636 by a Puritan minister named Thomas Hooker.
  • 25 years after it began there were 15 thriving towns on the Connecticut River.
  • Rhode Island: In spring of 1636, Williams purchased the land from from the Native Americans to start a settlement.
  • Williams believed in religious toleration, so he let any different faith live in Rhode Island.
