Andrew Jackson won against John Quincy Adams and was elected president in 1829 and believed in using Jacksonian Democracy for the main political power.
Jackson believed in the spoils system or, giving government jobs to his political backers.
Tariffs passed by congress divided Americans into 3 different groups for 3 different causes: The sale of land in the west, how the federal government spent their money, and rising tariffs.
Jackson was very harsh towards the Native Americans and hoped they would assimilate or adapt the white culture.
The harsh journey the Indians took relocating to the west was known as The Trail of Tears. They were relocated to the Indian territory or now modern day Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska
In 1830 the congress passed the Indian Removal Act which would relocate the Native Americans west of the Mississippi.
Jackson was reelected in 1832
Also in 1832, Jackson declared war on the national bank because it had too much polical power. Jackson actually won and made the bank go out of business, he did this by transferring all the money into state banks
In 1836 was when Jackson's vice president, Martian Van Buren became president and won against William Harrison and Hugh White, who were both With the Whig party. Van was democractic.
During Van Buren's presidency was when the Panic of 1837 happen. Due to Jackson helping the state bank, it made it easier for people to make loans. The state bank also made too much paper money which lessened it's value which later caused a large down slope for the economy.
