  • Doodle is born with bright red skin and nearly dies, even after he lives he has extreme limitations
  • Falling Action
  • Doodle's brother pushes him beyond his limits in an attempt to make him normal by making him run, swim, and climb, but Doodle simply cannot complete the goals his brother has set for him.
  • Resolution
  • Doodle's brother is angry that Doodle couldn't complete the course he had set for him so in his anger he left Doodle behind in the storm. Doodle cries out for his brother not to leave him, as that had always been a fear of his.
  • Conflict: Man vs Nature
  • Doodle's brother realizes that he should go back to check on Doodle after Doodle never catches up with him. The brother is almost nervous and scared for Doodle for the first time.
  • I should go back to check on Doodle
  • The rain and being left behind was to much for Doodle, and he dies of his heart condition, the brother comes back and sees him like this, he then shields his "fallen scarlet ibis" from the rain
  • Due to his brothers negligence Doodle is left behind in the storm, at the beginning of the story we are told that due to Doodle's limitations he cannot be too hot or too cold, and that he has very sensitive skin, he wasn't able to get too worked up either. When Doodle was left behind the storm exposed his limitations and ultimately caused Doodle's demise.
