''He leaped upon the rail and balanced himself there, to get greater elevation; his pipe, stricking a rope was knocked from his mouth.'' ''He lunged for it; a short, hoarse cry came from his lips as he realized he reached too far and had lost his balance.'' ''Ten minutes of determined effort brought another sound to his ears -the most welcome he had ever heard-the muttering and growling of sea barking at shore.''
'' General,''said Rainsford firmly, '' I wish to leave this island at once.''
'' Tonight, ''said the general,'' we will hunt -- you and I.''
'' The Cossack was the cat; he was the mouse.'' '' Then it was that Rainsford knew the full meaning of terror.'' ''Three hundred yards from his hiding place he stopped where a huge dead tree leaned precariously on a smaller, living one.'' ''Rainsford took his knife from its sheath and began to work with all his energy.''
The first conflict was when Rainsford had fallen off of the yacht and then ended up on ship trap island. Also if he hadn't ended up on the island then he would have never been hunted by Zaroff because he would have never met him.
The second conflict is that Rainsford wants to leave ship trap island but then is forced to hunt with Zaroff. If Zaroff finds Rainsford he will not get to leave ship trap island instead he will die. Therefore he will have to figure out a way to win the hunt.
The third conflict was how Rainsford had to find a way to win the hunt so he can not only leave the island but live. So he made a trap for Zaroff.
