Storyboard Text

  • Time for your next science lesson with Professor Smaug.
  • Today we are going to talk about pure substances and mixtures.
  • See, this pitiful hobbit's bodily fluids are mixtures, because they are made of multiple elements/compounds
  • Some of those parts include oxygen, water, plasma, and many more.
  • He's pretty tasty too.
  • This water is a pure substance because it is just one compound.
  • If we put salt in it, it would now be a mixture.
  • Now salt water is a pretty good example of saturation.
  • Normally the solute dissolves inside the solvent.
  • Saturation is the measure of how much solute there is in a solvent.
  • But sometimes there is too much of it and it can't dissolve.
  • This is called super-saturation.
  • There is usually a visual effect to super-saturation.
  • The definition of super-saturation is when there is too much solute for the solvent to dissolve
  • That will be all for today kids. It's time for your math class with Mr. Gollum
