  • Conflict sparks between the Capulets and Montagues on the street. Romeo kills Tybalt to avenge Mercutio, who had been previously stabbed by Tybalt.
  • Act III, scene 4 (3.4)
  • Juliet's Nurse inadvertently misleads her into thinking that Romeo is dead. Once Juliet is cleared of the confusion, she is confused on what she feels Romeo to be.
  • Act III, scene 5 (3.5)
  • Friar informs Romeo of his punishment of banishment and advises him on what he should do. Romeo finds this punishment worse than death since he can't be with Juliet.
  • Act III, scene 5 (3.5) continued
  • Lord Capulet decides to let Juliet marry Paris and feels Thursday would be good in order to cheer Juliet up after the death of Tybalt. Lady Capulet is sent to inform Juliet of the news.
  • The Friar and Nurse send up Romeo to Juliet in order to comfort her.
  • Romeo leaves and Lady Capulet informs Juliet of her engagement to Paris and she refuses to marry him. Lady Capulet brings in Lord Capulet to the situation and he threatens to kick her out if she doesn't marry him.
