As a kid he loved animals, all kinds. The narrator had dogs, cats and even birds. His favorite animal was a cat named Pluto. The love was mutal and they went everywhere together.
The main character of this story became very drunk and went to inns very often. This caused spurts of violence against the cat. He ended up taking out the cats eye and eventually murdering the cat on the gallows.
Their house caught on fire forcing them to move to an apartment. At the apartment, he felt bad for the murder and decided to get a new cat to make up for it. The cat hung out for a while, but the narrator started getting haunted by the cat.
One day he were walking down to the depths of the cellar, the wife and the cat with him. The cat trips him and the narrator falls. He grabs an axe and attacks the cat. The wife protests and gets an axe to the head.
The cat disappears and the main character has to find a way to hide the body. Thankfully for him there was a wall that he could wall up her in. He propped up the body and closed it up.
The police came over to investigate the whereabouts of the wife. He let them come in and explore the house. As they were about to leave the cellar the murderer wanted to brag a bit and made a statement about the wall. A meow came out and when the police looked in they saw the cat eating the woman.
