Storyboard Text

  • There will be no school on November 11th because it is Veterans Day.
  • I wonder what Veterans Day is.
  • YAY!!! We get a three day weekend!!
  • Hello. My name is Captain Machado. I am here today to tell you about Veterans Day.
  • Many times students and adults do not know why we celebrate Veterans Day or why it is always on the same day every year.
  • Veterans Day used to be called Armistice Day. This tradition began on November 11, 1919 when the US President set a day aside to honor soldiers who had fought in World  War I. The date was chosen because a ceasefire was called at 11:00 am on November 11th which ultimately ended the Great War.
  • The United States is not the only country that observes Veterans Day. There are other countries around the world that take this day to honor those men and women that have and are still serving in the military.
  • It is important to not confuse Veterans Day with Memorial Day because Veterans Day is to honor those who are still serving or those who have served. Memorial Day is to pay tribute to those who have been lost or sustained an injury while serving. Most importantly remember to thank a Veteran this Veterans Day.
