  • EXPOSITION
  • RISING ACTION
  • CONFLICT
  • The main characters are the child and the dark brown dog. This story takes place in a city type setting. the boy and the dog meet on a street corner. In the beginning of the story the dog is very loyal to the boy. There is an introductory conflict introduced. The boy was the one who was beating up the dog and acting immature when it should be the opposite. He may be experiencing things personally to make him act aggressively towards the dog.
  • CLIMAX
  • The dog followed the boy home and they sat down on the step where the dog greatly exerted himself to please the boy. The boy suddenly started to see the dog as a valuable thing. They had a battle on the stairs. The child was victoriuos because the dog was very small, which shows "survival of the fittest" (the strong devoure the weak). The parents meet the dog. His parents weren't that glad, but they allowed him to stay.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • In the story there is an internal conflict (dog vs. himself). The dog throughout the whole story was basically struggling. I imagine the dog having many contradictory thoughts since he wanted to stay with the boy, but at the same time stay away from the abuse of the family. There was also an external conflict (father vs. the dog). The father was the one in the house who did not agree for the dog to stay, so he was the one who would physically abuse the dog.
  • RESOLUTION
  • Dog VS. Himself
  • Father VS. Dog
  • The dog is not used to seeing the dad drunk. The boy already knows what to do and hides under the table while the dog thinks it's a game. The father was in a mood for having fun, and it occurred to him that it would be a fine thing to throw the dog out of the window. This was a really surreal moment because the dog was the innocent one behaving and being loyal and he is the one who gets to pay the price.
  • The dog created a surprise in the block and children ran whooping. Everyone was just in shock. The dark brown dog crashed in a heap on the roof of a shed five stories below. From then it rolled to a pavement of an alleyway. The boy is the one who is greatly affected by this tragedy.
  • The boy started to cry and ran quickly to see. It took him a long time to reach the alley because of his size. The dark brown dog had died and the boy was seated by the body of his dark brown friend. The boy had realized what the dog actually meant to him. He called him his FRIEND. I think the message here is that it is very tragic, but it is depicting the cycle of abuse and the impact it has on those involved.
