After the death of 10 y/o Jayden's 36 y/o father Dave due to a rhino attack at the zoo where he was employed, his family's sole source of income has been taken away. His mother, 35 y/o Karen, now must find a way to support their family.
I told him he should have been the penguin keeper instead. I hate rhinos.
I have to find a way to provide for Jaydon.
Karen goes to a government building to apply for TANF, a program that temporarily helps families in need. There, she gets help with expenses and gets training to help her get a job.
I can finally get my training to be a hairdresser and provide for my family. Plus I will have time to spend with my son because TANF will help me with my finances also!
Karen qualifies for this program because she is a part of a low income family with a child that has recently lost a provider.
Now Karen is working as a hairdresser and slowly paying a higher percent of her expenses. She is working towards financial independence.
In the meantime Karen and Jaydon enjoy long hikes together and playing soccer and are moving in the right direction to improve their well-being.
