Junior year, I start considering which colleges I want to apply to. My sister was a freshman at Yale so I feel a lot of pressure to live up to her success.
I applied to schools that were popular for students in my area, but I did a lot of research into other options. I don't really see colleges outside the northeast as an accessible option. I do a lot of work with my parents to calculate my estimated financial contribution at each school.
I chose Barnard College. Although not the most affordable option on my list, it met my financial need and it resonated strongly with me. I suffered a lot of imposter syndrome in high school, and I appreciated the idea of engaging in academics without feeling like I'm inferior because of my gender or other identities.
