Odysseus and his crew arrive at the cyclopes island and decide to get out of the ship and look around. "In the next land we foun were Cyclopes, giants, louts, without a law to bless them"(374)
After starting to look around, the crew finds a cave and goes inside. "Then over the broad cavern floor he usheredthe ewes he meant to milk. He left his ramsand he-goats in the yard outside, and swung high overhead a slab of solid rock" (140)
After a while of looking around, they hear the cave door open and they run and hide. "You are a ninny, or else you come from the other end of nowhere, telling me, mind the gods! We Cyclopescare not a whistle for your thundering Zeusor all the gods in bliss; we have more force by far. I would not let you go for fear of Zeus you or your friends unless I had a whim to" (180)
For one of Odysseus escape plan, he decides that he and a few of his men, were going to stop the cyclops in the eye while he was asleep. He follows through with his plan and that night, they stab him in the eye and make him go blind. They wait out that night for the perfect moment to escape and get back to his ship.
"straightforward sprinted, lifted it, and rammed it deep in his crater eye."(290)
Odysseus finds his way out of the cave and escape. But, with Odysseus being the person he is, he wasn't done with the Cyclop. "O Cyclops! Would you feast on my companions? Puny, am I, in a caveman's hands? How do you like the beating that we gave you, you damned cannibal? Eater of guests under your roof! Zeus and the gods have paid you!" (390)
Once Odysseus and his men make it to the ship, Odysseus dose'nt give up with the cyclops. He keeps making fun of him until his crew mates tell him to stop. "Godsake, Captain! Why bait the beast again? Let him alone! That tidal wave he made on the first throw all but beached us" (410)
