Brian found out that he could make a fire from the sparks from the hatchet, but he knew that it was a long way from sparks to fire.
Brian tried catching sparks on small twigs and grass but that did not work.
Brian ripped up a 20 dollar bill he had and tried to make a fire with that but it didn't work.
Brian picked some birch bark off of a tree until he had a wad close to the size of a baseball then mixed them in with the bill but that didn’t work.
Next Brian tried peeling the wood back to make strings about the size of a single hair; he made a ball of this about the size of a grapefruit. It took a couple tries but eventually he got a fire going!
Brian had fire and considered it a hungry friend, so he had to keep getting it more wood to “feed” it.
