Guy Montag was a firefighter, except not like the firefighters we know. His job was to burn books, as they were illegal in his society. One day while he was out, he met Clarisse. Clarisse was a very interesting girl who had strange thoughts and feelings.
Because Clarisse sparks new thoughts in Montag, he begins to question why he burns books. What is the purpose? This leads to him stealing books that he was supposed to burn and actually reading them.
After Clarisse died, Montag reached out to his old acquaintance, Faber. Faber was once a professor at a time where he could study and read freely.
One day after Montag's wife found his books, she called the firefighters to come to their house and burn everything! Montag was on duty that day so little did he know what was about to happen. When the truck pulled up to his home, he wasn't sure what to even do.
Montag's quick wit led him to kill the fire chief, and the hound. The hound is a very large beast that works for the fire department to capture people trying to get away.
After killing the hound and Beatty, Montag has no choice but to run away. He runs and runs until he is out of town. Eventually, at some point through the night, he meets a group of men. These men were exactly like him, outcasts. They had gone against the status quo to answer their questions, but this lead them to be considered criminals.
