In 1970 Sylvia co-founded STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries)
Since the Gay Rights Alliance has dropped trans rights we'll just have to form our own activist organization!
In the late 70's Sylvia left the social movement scene. She went on to work in food services.
She managed to survive in poverty and with a substance addiction.
However, every year Sylvia would return for pride marches.
"Gay, Straight, Black, White, marriage is a civil right!"
In the late 90's Sylvia returned to New York City to help homeless queer teenagers.
Don't worry. I'm here to help you.
On February 19, 2002 Sylvia died of liver cancer.
To this day her actions continue to motivate thousands to stand up and take action against the un-just treatment and laws against LGBTQ+.
