  • In 1970 Sylvia co-founded STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries)
  • Since the Gay Rights Alliance has dropped trans rights we'll just have to form our own activist organization!
  • In the late 70's Sylvia left the social movement scene. She went on to work in food services.
  • She managed to survive in poverty and with a substance addiction.
  • However, every year Sylvia would return for pride marches.
  • "Gay, Straight, Black, White, marriage is a civil right!"
  • In the late 90's Sylvia returned to New York City to help homeless queer teenagers.
  • Don't worry. I'm here to help you.
  • Thank you!!
  • On February 19, 2002 Sylvia died of liver cancer.
  • To this day her actions continue to motivate thousands to stand up and take action against the un-just treatment and laws against LGBTQ+.
