Long ago in the land of the rising sun two gods Kagia, the god of air and breathe and Ayumi, Kagia's wife and the god of rhythm and beating of heart created the first humans. They created the two humans from Kagia's breathe so that humans could breath and Ayumi's beating soul to give them a beating heart.
They dressed these humans in long garments that would only show their heads, hands, and feet. This was to respect the humans honor and the honor of the gods that created them. Kagia and Ayumi stayed with the humans for 100 years and treated the humans like their children. But the gods had to leave for 13 hundred years to attended to a celestial god meeting.
After 13 hundred years the humans had lost their honor for their ancestors, gods and themselves. Kagia and Ayumi saw the humans that were direct decendents of the first humans, Yuko Oshii and her husband Mino Yugihama and Nanidesu Ka and his wife Tori Desu. The gods were enraged at the ugly clothes that they were wearing disrespecting their honor.
Ayumi was so enraged that she decide to punish them for their dishonor of their ancestors and the gods. " I will punish Yuko , Nanidesu and their Haigusha (spouse in Japanese) by making the birds of the sky to peck them until they regain their honor to us!" Kagia not wanting to not anger his wife further he agreed to send the birds out to punish the humans.
As the gods were punishing Yuko, Nanidesu, and their spouses, Yuko called out to Ayumi "Mother of my ancestor please tell me what we could do to stop out pain and suffering!" Ayumi said if you create a clothing that respects our honor we will end your torture." Then humans decided to dress in their finest garments but the birds were still pecking them and them humans still cried in pain.
Yuko was so confused as to why the birds were still attacking. She thought back to the stories her grandmother would tell her about the beautiful garments the ancestors would wear. Grandmother said they were clothed in these Kimonos to respect the honor of the gods and themselves. Yuko ran to her husband and told her that she was going to create these Kimonos to end their pain. Yuko a skilled woman created the long Kimonos and passed them to all of people in town and the birds stopped pecking them. Ayumi saw this and was very pleased with Yuko and decided to bless her with many offspring and they passed down for generations the tradition of wearing Kimonos.
