  • daily life in traditional communities
  • the first activity of the day, is to worship the rising sun, 
  • then they did several hours of work around gardens or fishing and gathering sea food 
  • hunters would hunt moa, birds and seals, the first meal of the day was mid- morning then they would carry on with their work  
  • chiefs worked along side they people, and could specialise in carving ,tatooing, or making feather cloaks
  • children learnt adult tasks through imitation and old people would help with things like plaiting and mending fishing nets or shaping greenstone tools
  • women would make fires and prepare the food distributed by the chiefs/men. this part of the day was named ahiahi or 'many fires'
