During the period of European conquest, both Central America and the Caribbean were pillages, mostly by Spain. Some examples of a few important conquistadors were Rodrigo de Bastidas, Vasco Nuñez de Balboa, and Pedro Arias Dávila. Many of these men murdered and enslaved numerous indigenous people, and were extremely brutal. Eventually, the spanish had killed so many, they didn't have enough people to enslave, so they went to Africa. Eventually, the slaves organized a revolution, led by François Toussaint-Louverture., to overthrow the Spaniards in Haiti, which was successful.
Farm faster peasants!!!
There is a large amount of blending of ethnicities in Central America. Some of the more dominant ethnicities include the Mestizos, indigenous people, and African. Until the early 20th century, immigration was higher than emigration, but now it isn't. Their population density is extremely dense.
People speak many different languages. Some include english dutch and spanish. Many people speak in patois, which blends many different dialects. They also are just as diverse in their religions and education systems, which vary country to country. The arts are greatly influenced by indigenous culture.
Wealth is very undistributed in these countries, which is a big problem. The Hacienda system, where a large farm was owned by a wealthy family and worked by the poor, didn't work well. Many countries are still considered undeveloped. Most employment is in cottage industries, where people are employed in their home. Ecotourism can provide more opportunities for employment.
I really hate that guy, he gets rich, and we get pennies!
