Tris Tobias Evelynn Uriah
After Jeannine and the Erudite are overthrown, Evelynn seizes control of the city and makes a very strict set of rules to make sure she stays in power. Because of this, Tris, Tobias, Uriah, Christina and the Allegiant all make plans to escape the city walls.
Tris, and the rest of the crew successfully escape. (besides Tori, she got shot) While they are walking around outside, people have come to meet and take them back to "The Bureau," a government-run establishment that was monitoring the city they just came from.
They meet David, the guy who runs the bureau and he explains that the government tried to edit the genetics of humans and that the experiment failed. Since the experiment failed, they put all the people they genetically damaged in to one place in hopes that with time their genes would heal themselves.
David talks to Tris in private and tries to convince her that genetically damaged people are lesser to her because her genes are healed. Tris is not convinced and turns against David and makes a plan with the rest of the people she came with to save everyone in the city and change how genetically damaged people are viewed by erasing the memories of the people at the bureau and teaching them that genetically damaged people are equal to them.
While Tris is busy resetting the memory of everyone except her friends at the bureau Tobias goes back to the city to convince her mother not to start a civil war within the city. However, while Tobias is in the city, Tris dies while resetting the memory of everyone at the compound because David shot her
Tobias is living in a reformed society back in Chicago, where they initially came from. The people back in the bureau are being taught that they are fighting the government on how people with damaged genetics are equal to people with normal genes and Tobias is trying to cope with the fact that Tris died.
