This is the point of the story where Jonas has to leave with Gabriel because if not then Jonas would have been released. Jonas and Gabriel are like brothers so it would be a real heart breaker if Gabriel had gotten released.
At this point of the story Jonas is trying to heal both he and Gabriel because of how cold they are. Jonas transmits the memory of warmth and they both are renewed of their energy.
This is where Jonas is about to die and the author leaves the book open ended so nobody really knows what happened to Jonas and Gabriel. Many people have many opinions on how the book ends and t is up to you to decide.
